Questions and Answers

Tell us about your company name.
I chose to keep the business name straightforward and personal, because nothing else felt quite as authentic to me. I enjoy taking personal responsibility for each of my clients' events, which I've noticed builds extra confidence and security for my clients. Many couples also want to know who their lead singer/MC is in advance of the big day, so beyond the Ben Mallare Band, each of our other bands are also named after its lead singer/MC.
Why should someone hire you?
We care about what we do – a lot! Each wedding is one-of-a-kind, and it's the biggest day of our clients' lives. We pay careful attention to detail to make sure we haven't missed anything, and there's nothing that makes us happier than a full dance floor of guests celebrating our clients.
What are the common misconceptions about your services?
Ask Adam Sandler! Truthfully, there ARE many tacky wedding bands still working today, and while a certain demographic may like the old norm, the younger generation doesn't appreciate it as much. Our look and performance style is about as current as it gets, but we do still take on many classic party hits from the 50s through 80s.
What drew you to this field/how did you get started?
I moved to Los Angeles in 2013, and I had – as the old adage goes – nothing but a dream! The goal was to pursue a career as a singer, and I wasn't picky about what that looked like. I joined another wedding band right out the gate, and after a few months realized that my dual business and music degree had already given me the expertise I needed to start my own operation.
What are some sources of inspiration or influences on your work?
Musically, my inspiration draws from Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Adele, and Kelly Clarkson—singers with big voices who have connected with audiences on an emotional level. In terms of business inspiration, there is another company called Wayne Foster Entertainment that inspired me to pursue excellence in the field of events and entertainment.
What makes a wedding memorable for you?
Emotional moments stick with me. Witnessing the love between family members and friends is an honor, and it's hard not to tear up after an especially sweet toast or dance.
What have weddings taught you?
Unsurprisingly, they've taught me a lot about relationships! There have been many weddings where I've listened to our couples' vows pondering my own experience. I've had the privilege to watch my own relationship grow over the last several years, and I can think of many hallmark moments during vows and toasts over the years where I drew some parallels to my own experience.
What is the best advice you give a couple when planning their wedding?
Hire the best professionals, and then let them be the best! I know that for some couples, the urge to micromanage is REAL, and I do understand why. However, this can seriously jeopardize the quality of service a vendor can provide. For instance, we used to accept edited song lists from our couples, but they would sometimes choose only songs they would listen to themselves at that moment. Unfortunately, this has no bearing on what makes an amazing dance party for family and friends. We now ask our couples to trust our judgement. We have years of experience reading our crowds and selecting the best songs to play to make that particular party the most fun and memorable it can possibly be.
If you could have any superpower on the job, what would it be?
To get Grandma out on the dance floor!
What's your favorite quote?
"That which does not kill us, makes us stronger." —Friedrich Nietzsche
