Services Offered

Deidra Gray-Breijo creates personalized wedding ceremonies for her couples—intricately weaving the couple’s love story, memories, and beliefs into a beautifully delivered sermon. She’s pretty much the “triple threat” of wedding officiants: an experienced public speaker with a background in journalism and a melodious Australian accent. But best of all, she’s known for capturing the essence of a couple’s story—and entrancing the guests by telling it!

The key to her success is taking the time to get to know her couples. With in-depth consultations and a comprehensive consultation form, she’ll make sure that every minute detail of your ceremony is thoroughly tailored to you.

Deidra creates a wide range of beautiful and inspiring ceremonies, including:

  • Wedding Ceremonies: non-denominational, religious, non-religious, spiritual
  • Same-sex marriages
  • Multi-cultural wedding traditions
  • Spiritual unions
  • Vow renewals
  • Baby blessing and naming ceremonies

Reviews

“The ceremony she provides is about everything that YOU want. She makes it so personalized. She remembered things in passing that we had said in a conversation that my husband and I had forgotten about. She had jotted them down and put them in the ceremony. It made it so touching and so personal.”

“She had welcomed us into her house for an extended time to get to know us. She really digs in deeply to find out what kind of people we are, our story, and how she can blend her own reading with our experience.”

“The ceremony was so touching and beautiful. She incorporates so wonderfully what we talked about.”

“She’s Australian, so she has a fabulous way of speaking. I even told her that she should go into public speaking!”

“She’s so thorough and helpful. She’s mindful of parents, extended family, even the pets that you’d want to incorporate into the ceremony.”

“Everything was perfect.”

“She is caring, honest, ethical, reliable and goes the extra mile with her clients! I could not have asked for more. Thank you Deidra, job WELL DONE!!”

Questions and Answers

What 3 words best describe your work?
I aim for my work to be: Inspirational. Meticulous. Rewarding.
Why does a couple retain your services?
I feel a couple asks for me to preside over their wedding ceremony because they gain complete confidence in the way I connect with them when we meet, and the approach I take in designing an original ceremony for them. They also trust that I will deliver their marriage address in a heartfelt manner, with dignity and eloquence. They know I have listened to their personal requests and their requirements because I follow up with them immediately on everything we discuss. And they find that I exude genuine pleasure in their happiness – I truly get excited for their big event and it shows!
What drew you to this field?
Haven't we all been to a wedding where we thought the homily that the Officiant or Minister was delivering was not at all representative of the couple? It seemed like it was just a 'cookie cutter' ceremony and it was obvious that no real thought had been placed into the wording. I certainly didn't want that to be the case for my husband and myself. As I have a background in journalism, I chose to write our own unique ceremony, and before long I had many people asking me to write their ceremony as well. It's very important to form a good relationship with a couple. It is taking the time to find out their spirituality, getting to know their personality, interests, and their ideals for their future. I knew there would be many couples sourcing out an Officiant who was willing to spend time and effort creating their "own" ceremony. And I knew I would serve them well, simply because I believed, and still believe, that every couple truly deserves a beautifully conveyed ceremony.
What are some sources of inspiration or influences on your work?
I read every book I can find that I feel is relevant on marriage and relationships in today's society. Books from Self Help to Poetry. One of my favorite pieces is called "Why Marriage?" by Mari Nichols-Haining. If you understand the joys and aspirations, as well as the frustrations that couples face, then it makes writing a ceremony more poignant and truthful. Creating a ceremony comes from within – mind and heart. I also draw from my own experiences as a wife and stepmother, homeowner, businesswoman and animal lover (my husband and I currently have two rescue pups, and we've also rescued cats and other dogs, too). All these things have made our marriage interesting, fun, challenging and strong. And we are celebrating 24 amazing years together and counting!
What have weddings taught you?
Seeing young couples getting married has taught me how sweet and beautiful love is. And the secret is to keep the love alive, long after the honeymoon! The fiery passion that overwhelms us early in a relationship certainly simmers down over the years – we all know this. However, no matter how many years you've been together, every couple needs to find time for romance, nurturing, surprises, laughter and many adventures.
What is the best advice you can give to a couple when planning their wedding?
Be organized, but not to the point where the wedding planning takes over your life and you aren't fun to be around anymore. Your wedding day is very important and an exciting event for you, your fiancée, your family and your friends, too. So make planning your wedding pleasurable – not stressful or a chore. Remember the well-known words from the passage Corinthians 13: Love is patient, love is kind. Be kind to all those helping you with your wedding and be patient. My advice is to be diligent yet amenable, and realistic in all of your decision making. Stick to your budget. And most of all, make the experience enjoyable for you and your future spouse.
What makes a ceremony beautiful or emotional for you?
Unspoken expressions. There is nothing more moving or emotional than when a bride walks down the aisle with her dad. The look of love the parent has for his daughter, and that look of love the groom conveys when he sees his bride walking towards him. It melts my heart every time.
