Why You'll Love This Place

A Here Comes The Guide Wedding Venue Review

As you turn off Sonoma's main street and into Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa's ten acres of trees, manicured lawns, and colorful gardens, the abrupt transition from bustling city to quiet retreat takes you by surprise. And once you begin to stroll around the grounds, your surprise turns into delight.

The Inn occupies a site once considered a sacred healing ground by Native Americans, who discovered the natural underground hot mineral waters here. Today, it continues to be not just a mecca for those seeking an antidote to stress, but a premier location for all types of special events.

An abundance of lawns are available for ceremonies, cocktail receptions, and seated dinners. Among them are the Creekside Lawn, bordered by a creek and encircled by trees; the vast Breezeway Lawn, set off by flowerbeds; and the South Lawn, shaded by beautiful trees. Some of the lawns can be tented for more intimate outdoor parties.

Indoor spaces are often used in conjunction with the lawns. For example, you might exchange vows on the Creekside Lawn, then host cocktails on the private fountain patio adjoining the Sonoma Valley Room, before stepping into the ballroom for your reception. When you open the French doors to this dramatic setting, it makes a fantastic first impression: elegantly set tables glow with candles, creating an enchanting ambiance. The room also boasts golden walls, a high open-beamed ceiling with chandelier, and a wood-burning fireplace.

Perhaps the most popular venue is Vintage Hall. Located at the resort's Sonoma Golf Club, it provides the exclusivity of a private club and plenty of room for a larger wedding. Couples exchange vows on the Oak Tree Lawn beneath a spreading oak, or on the adjacent Courtyard steps. After post-ceremony toasts in the Courtyard, everyone moves into the Hall for a reception with a view: floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the spectacular 177-acre, 18-hole championship golf course. As night falls, guests often walk outside to mingle on the expansive veranda—it's the perfect spot to savor an after-dinner drink by the fire pit, while watching the sun set over the fairways. Plus, the party can continue even out here until midnight!

Food at the Inn is given as much attention as your event and your comfort. Fresh regional produce, cheeses, and meats are the main ingredients that go into everything, from simple hors d'oeuvres to sumptuous seated dinners. Exquisite wedding cakes are also made in-house. Your Wedding Specialist will oversee every aspect of your celebration, from assisting with planning to arranging overnight accommodations. And on top of everything else, guests have access to the Spa's full range of therapeutic and pampering services (their salon does makeup, hair, mani/pedis, and facials!) to help them look and feel their best. Many brides book the Spa Loggia, a private balcony, for a bridal party spa day.

When the festivities have concluded, the newlyweds can retire to their complimentary honeymoon suite, complete with romantic turndown service. And if they've opted for the "Wedding Weekend", they'll wake up the next morning with a couple of equally enticing choices: spend the day relaxing with friends and family and indulging at the inn … or go and explore all that Sonoma has to offer.
