Questions and Answers

What 3 words best describe your work?

Warm. Cinematic. Fun.

Tell us about your company name.

Hey Honey Photography came out of a conversation I had with a good friend of mine! She told me that "Hey honey!" "Hey babe!" "Hey boo!" "Hey lovely!" "Hey girl!" are all ways I affectionately talk to or address people, and thus Hey Honey was born :). I love honey, and am also a HUGE fan of plays on words and puns, and the pun possibilities are just endless with honey and bees!

What drew you to this field/how did you get started?

I am a former project manager/digital producer, and actually fell into photography when I was working for a fashion brand back in 2012! I was at an event and one of the directors I worked with handed me a camera and asked, "Can you figure this thing out?" So figure it out I did, and quickly became addicted to photography! For a short time I owned internal photo shoots with that particular brand, taking street style inspired photos of employees in clothing they bought from the brand. I've been doing portraits ever since, and especially love working outdoors in beautiful locations. I started taking on weddings in 2018 and that pretty much changed everything for me! I remember showing up to my very first wedding and had this overwhelming feeling of "Yep! Now THIS is what I am supposed to be doing!" After having two degrees under my belt in both Psychology and Fashion, I have never had more confirmation about what I should be doing with my vocation – celebrating + championing the love of others through photography! My project management skills come in super handy now, as much of my role as a wedding photographer is also being a partial planner with couples to craft the perfect timeline for their wedding for the most ideal photo moments.

What have weddings taught you?

That love is love and there's no wrong way to celebrate. Love is beautiful and the love partners share is so very special and powerful! I tear up or cry at almost every wedding (don't worry, it's usually hidden behind the camera ;)), because I am always so moved by the love two people have for one another. Life is short, let's spend it championing one another's relationships!

What is the best advice you give a couple when planning their wedding?

The best advice I can give to a couple planning their wedding is to do it YOUR way! It's a day to celebrate and champion a lifelong partnership, not a day to people-please ;).

Want a small wedding under 50 people? Awesome! Want a wedding over 200 people? The more the merrier! Want it minimal? Boho? Rustic? Non-traditional? Sit down with your partner and discuss your top 3 must haves/non-negotiables for your wedding. It could be awesome photography, a planner that will do everything for you, and super tasty food. There's honestly no wrong way. Include people (your closest friends + fam) that will champion you, and that also means selecting vendors that you have chemistry with and will serve you well!

If you could have any superpower on the job, what would it be?

To have endless energy + strength that never runs out ;)! And the ability to make it be "golden hour" the entire day!!

What are 3 words that describe your personality?

Creative. Empathetic. Positive.

If you weren't in your current profession, what would you do instead?

If I wasn't a photographer, I'd love to be a writer :). I used to write poetry!
