Bethany Fritz puts it quite simply: “Creative brides and grooms deserve a creative photographer; someone to provide beautiful and unique images that best represent you.” Bethany’s images are atypical, far from traditional, and artistically driven. Her brides tell us that Bethany captures wedding stories in their entirety. With images of the couple getting ready—all the way to the last dance—she’s right there in the mix, capturing their essence and unique style. She’s energetic, fun, stylish, and just plain cool. So if you’re planning “a fun and groovy wedding,” check out Bethany and Maypole Studios for your photography.

Prices and/or Package Info

Wedding photography starts at $4,800.

Bethany also has a serious soft spot for elopements! Her "Elope Now, Party Later" package starts at just $575 per hour.

Reviews

“We wanted some of the traditional posed shots, but more than that, we wanted to capture the feeling and the small but special moments of the day. Bethany did just that. She nailed it. And we love the pictures so much that our house almost looks like a shrine to our wedding day.”

“Bethany and Maypole Studios isn’t just a company that will work hard to be hired—she will work hard to invest her heart into fulfilling all of your expectations and she will work even harder to follow through on producing quality, candid photos that you will cherish.”

“She really lived up to all of our expectations.”

“With over 250 guests that night I felt like I was watching a train car of my family and friends whip past me; however, after viewing Bethany’s photos, I felt like I could really appreciate all of my loved ones, and enjoyed looking at how much fun they each had that night.”

“She also had the tough job of wrangling some of the most distractible, high-energy groomsmen in the world. She came through with flying colors, and half of them came out with crushes on her, despite her being happily married!”

“I have always described Bethany as a woman who can make your heart feel a little lighter and little warmer, and on our big day, her presence brought a little more warmth and light to every photograph.”

“The moment we met Bethany, we fell in love with her. She brings such a warm and inviting presence.”

“Maypole is Bethany and when you’re signing a contract with Maypole you receive a wonderful talent to comfort you throughout the biggest day of your life.”

“When the camera was down, Bethany and her assistant were like welcomed friends and they showed the utmost respect to all of our guests.”

“She also pushed us out of our comfort zone a little bit and we got great pictures as a result—took photos in many locations we would never had thought would work, and they all looked just wonderful.”

“She was very upfront about the timeframe she would have our photos available to us, and she explained the entire process to us in a way that really made us feel at ease.”

“You will never find a woman or a company with more talent or more heart. I have recommended Bethany to three brides already, including my own sister.”

Questions and Answers

What 3 words best describe your work?
Playful, emotional, colorful.
Tell us about your company name.
I grew up in a rural area and remember the Maypole being decorated at the local fair. This tradition of celebrating the start of spring was met with excitement and anticipation; I thought it was the perfect imagery for wedding photography.
Why should someone hire you?
Because I really, really like my job! I don't just clock in and clock out—I invest 100% of my time, energy and emotion into each and every wedding and I love my clients.
What are the common misconceptions about your services?
That my work ends when the wedding ends. In reality there are hours upon hours left of work (editing, retouching, follow ups, album designing, etc.); it's an extensive process. I strive to be more than just a wedding vendor—after all the time we spend together my clients and I become friends.
What drew you to this field/how did you get started?
While in school for fashion photography, I photographed a wedding for a friend. I shot a zillion rolls of film and spent ridiculous hours scanning each image, but I was totally hooked!
What are some sources of inspiration or influences on your work?
Although I view the work of my favorite wedding photographers regularly as well as wedding blogs, I like checking out other forms of photography such as fine art, music, live concerts, etc. for inspiration. I am a big fan of Anton Corbijn (known mostly for his work over the years with U2), and I read every issue of PDN magazine from cover to cover.
Tell us about a favorite, unusual or very interesting moment at a wedding:
The LOVE BIKE! I won a crazy awesome heart shaped bicycle last Valentine's day (from mywedding.com), and one of my couples surprised their guests by riding it into their reception as they were announced. It was a great moment.
What makes a wedding memorable for you?
The couple and their relationship. When you strip away all the pretty details, it's really about the bond between these two people and their desire to commit to each other. My goal is to highlight what makes their love story unique.
What have weddings taught you?
Patience, patience, patience! No matter how stressful or crazy the situation, I find that a calm approach always works best. Be patient and let the dust clouds settle, it always works out in the end.
What is the best advice you give a couple when planning their wedding?
Have fun and don't stress each other out. Don't be afraid to do what you want—your wedding should be all about you: your favorite things, favorite music, favorite places, etc… Don't worry about what others might think. Remember your friends and family are thrilled to celebrate with you, so have fun and smile—A LOT!
What are 3 words that describe your personality?
Patient/Calm. Easy to talk to. Positive.
What's your favorite quote?
"Stuff your eyes with wonder, live as if you'd drop dead in ten seconds. See the world. It's more fantastic than any dream made or paid for in factories." —Fahrenheit 451
What's your favorite marriage advice?
Be a little crazy. Don't be afraid to try something new. Take a trip to somewhere you have never been before. Dress up for dinner. Buy a gift for your sweetie, just because. Don't pick a fight because they didn't load the dishwasher properly. Focus on the things you love, not the things that might bug you.
If you weren't in your current profession, what would you do instead?
Tour the country in an airstream trailer, playing music in coffee shops. Or work on a vineyard in a picturesque part of the world. When I was a little girl I always wanted to teach sign language to gorillas… who knows?
What's your favorite way to wind down after a hard day?
A nice dinner with my husband no matter how late it is (accompanied by a glass of wine and some good music on the iPod).
