Questions and Answers

What 3 words best describe your work?
Personal. Professional. Joyful.
Why should someone hire you?
Sometimes in the excitement of planning a wedding, the ceremony gets forgotten. But the ceremony is really the main event of the day! It's the reason people travel long distances to be at the wedding. They want to share in the joy and beauty of that moment when the couple says, "I do." The ceremony sets the tone for the rest of the festivities. My goal is to make sure people leave the ceremony saying, "That was the best wedding we ever went to!" I want them to feel warm and happy and to take that good feeling to the party and beyond. Because a wedding ceremony is so important, couples need the guidance of an experienced officiant. I have performed hundreds of ceremonies over 15 years, and each one has been a joy and an honor.
What are the common misconceptions about your services?
The word "minister" sometimes confuses people, but most of my ceremonies have no religious words at all. Almost all of my couples describe themselves as "not religious," but they do feel spiritual and want more than a civil ceremony. That spiritual grounding is what I try to provide.
Tell us about your company name.
At one time, I would lead prayers at the Sunday Celebrations at Glide Memorial Church in San Francisco. Someone wrote me a letter and sent it to the church addressed to "Maggie (Minister)." People began calling me Minister Maggie, and it stuck.
Tell us about a favorite, unusual or very interesting moment at a wedding:
One of my most unique weddings was on a cable car in San Francisco. The couple had come from out of state, and they brought a bag full of kazoos and other musical toys. We caught a random cable car, and the groom passed out the instruments. The riders were from all over the world, but everyone played "Here Comes The Bride." We hung on to the rails and had the ceremony right there. Then the couple had their first dance while the riders played, "I Left My Heart in San Francisco." Suddenly, a local resident in the back of the car began singing the words. It was such a fun, memorable, San Francisco event!
What have weddings taught you?
It's really important for the couple to enjoy every moment of the day. Planning can be so stressful that couples are sometimes too exhausted to relax and have fun at their own wedding. I've found that having help (a team of professional wedding vendors or even just designated friends) can make the day far easier for the couple and their guests.
What are 3 words that describe your personality?
Caring. Joyful. Calm.
What's your favorite book/movie/work of art?
Favorite book: A Tale of Two Cities
Favorite movie: Midnight In Paris
Favorite work of art: Nighthawks by Edward Hopper
What's your favorite quote?
"Getting old is not for sissies." —Bette Davis
Extracurricular activities:
Hiking in the redwoods. Trying to play bass guitar.
Tell us about your pets, if you have any.
A 24-pound tabby named Pavo recently adopted my husband and me. His owner died, and Pavo made it clear that he wanted to move into our house. We feel blessed to have been chosen and delighted to have this magical being in our lives.
