Sway Dance Chicago’s mission is to provide quality dance instruction in a comfortable learning environment. Whether you’re a total newbie or have been dancing for years, their experienced instructors will cater to your needs and choreograph to your level of ability. They always suggest keeping things simple, and choosing a dance style and music that truly bring out your personalities as a couple. Do you fancy a sassy Salsa, flirty Swing, classy Waltz, or passionate Tango? Do you need help finding the right song? Sway will listen to your needs and make expert suggestions to make your wedding dance one to remember.
Prices and/or Package Info
Sway Dance Chicago prides themselves on being great instructors—not pushy salespeople! As such, it is against their policy to require up-front, long-term “contract” payments. Private lessons are 45 minutes long and may be purchased individually, or in convenient and economical packages. Registration for group classes is available by the session or by the class via a 10-class punch card. All lessons may be purchased securely online or at the studio.

Tell us about a favorite, unusual or very interesting experience teaching wedding dance:
One of my favorite experiences while teaching a couple for their wedding happened about six years ago. I was waiting for my new students to arrive and they were about five minutes late. When they did enter the building, I could see something wasn't right. The bride came in with red eyes and a desperate look on her face. The groom about 20 seconds behind, arms crossed with a very unhappy energy. The issue was clear. He didn't want to take dance lessons. It was her dream to do a memorable first dance. A Tango. They tried dance lessons at another studio and it was a disaster. After reading reviews about Sway, it was her last attempt.He was reluctant. But, after a few lessons I believe I not only won him over, I'd even go as far as saying he enjoyed his lessons. I won't kid myself and think that they will be life long social dancers and that's OK. I'm just happy knowing they accomplished their goal. They did a beautiful Tango. Not only did they complete their dance, they called me from the honeymoon to let me know it went well. I'll never forget them.
What drew you to this field/how did you get started?
I started teaching dance lessons right out of high school. I studied Performing Arts with a dance emphasis at Iowa State University. While there I taught ballet, jazz, tap and modern. I did this for 6 years before moving to Chicago. I was tricked in to teaching Latin, Ballroom and Swing when I answered an advertisement for a "dance teacher". I arrived in my leotard and tights to find a beautiful ballroom instead of ballet barres. I fell in love.What are 3 words that describe your personality?
