Magnificent oaks and magnolias frame the historic Falkirk Mansion, a lovely Queen Anne Victorian in the heart of Marin County. Built in 1888, the house is the creation of Clinton Day, the architect who designed the Stanford University campus chapel. In keeping with the style of the period, it has a complex and intriguing roofline of gables and chimneys, variously shaped bays, and plenty of decorative details.

The property was purchased in 1906 by Captain Robert Dollar, a Scotsman who’d made his fortune in timber and shipping. He added many features to the estate, including the brick steps, pond, rolling lawns, greenhouse, and carriage house. A civic-minded man, he donated generously to both San Rafael and his hometown of Falkirk, Scotland, from which the mansion derives its name.

Today, Falkirk Cultural Center is operated by the City of San Rafael and serves as a historic site, contemporary art gallery, and cultural & educational center, as well as a popular wedding venue.

When you reserve the mansion, you have use of the entire first floor and grounds. The interior is beautifully rendered in rich redwood paneling, and features ornate mantelpieces, hardwood floors, and elegant wall coverings. The foyer is especially striking with its huge decorative fireplace and floor-to-ceiling stained-glass windows.

You can have your ceremony outdoors on the wedding lawn, in the rose garden or on the veranda, or indoors in the parlor. Afterwards, host your reception indoors, or dine and dance on the wedding lawn or the veranda. It doesn’t matter how you orchestrate your wedding; Falkirk will imbue it with intimacy and a century’s worth of Victorian charm.

  • The rental fee includes exclusive use of the mansion, mahogany folding chairs, and tables.

    • Monday–Thursday: $150–170/hour (2-hour minimum)
    • Friday & Sunday: $1,350–1,470 for a 6-hour rental (additional time $225–245/hour)
    • Saturday: $2,250–2,450 for a 10-hour rental

    Pricing above applies to private rentals (inquire for non-profit and commercial rental rates).

CEREMONY CAPACITY: The Parlor holds 50 seated or 75 standing guests; outdoors, the site can accommodate 125 seated on the wedding lawn or veranda.

EVENT/RECEPTION CAPACITY: October 15–April 14, the indoor capacity is 100 standing and 55 seated. April 15–October 14, the house and veranda hold up to 125 guests.

MEETING CAPACITY: The facility holds up to 80. Capacity depends on setup.
